                Brief History of Charlie Tully
Charles Patrick Tully from the Falls road Belfast fondly called Cheeky Charlie. Tully played a total of 319 matches for Celtic, scoring 47 goals. His position was the old outside left and his career at parkhead spanned 11 years. His first Old Firm catapulted Charlie to to the status of cult hero for his role in beating the rangers 3-1 .This started the beginning of
" Tullymania".When you could buy Tully Ice-Cream Tully Pints and all sorts  of merchandise with the name Tully on. Last year 2009 was the Sixtieth anniversary of Charlie Tully signing for Celtic from  Belfast Celtic during the season of 1948-1949 which many believe was the turning point that brought Celtic back to winning ways. With the arrival of Tully Celtic won the League in 1954, The cup in 1951,1954 and the League cup in 1957, 1958.
Charlie Tully was blessed with a rare abundance of skill and was, and always will be, a hero to Celtic fans. Charlie died young, only 47. in Belfast. It was in the early days of the Troubles, but Jock Stein, Sean Fallon, Billy Mc Neill, Tommy Gemmell, Bobby Murdock, Bertie Peacock and many more Celtic greats were in the funeral procession to pay their last respects to one of the most colourful characters and greatest footballers that Belfast, Ireland and Celtic ever had the privilege to see.
